The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021 were held in Mumbai on Saturday and on the very evening, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was honoured with the Critics Choice Award at the ceremony. The Dil Bechara actor, who was a part of several good films including MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Chhichhore and more, passed away tragically at his house in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. His demise shocked the nation, the fans and the entire Indian film industry.
The actor began his career from TV and rose to fame with the show, Pavitra Rishta with Ankita Lokhande. Sushant's death left everyone in a state of shock and his last film, Dil Bechara released after his demise. The actor was seen with debutante Sanjana Sanghi and Saif Ali Khan in the film. It was in 2013 with Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che! that Sushant made his big Bollywood debut and for his performance in the film based on Chetan Bhagat's book '3 Mistakes of My Life,' he won many awards and accolades.
Announcing the honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Instagram handle shared an image of the actor and the honour that he had been bestowed with posthumously. The handle wrote, "Celebrating the dedication you've shown on the way to this achievement. Congratulations to Late @sushantsinghrajput for winning the Critic's Best Actor award at Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021. We miss you!"
His last film, Dil Bechara released on an OTT platform but received an overwhelming response from fans across the globe. It was based on John Greene's book, The Fault In Our Stars. Dil Bechara is directed by Mukesh Chhabra, who was Sushant's close friend. The music of the film is by AR Rahman and fans remembered the late actor via the composer's tunes.
