As the recent rape case of a 3-year-old had come to the surface in Bandipora, the entire Kashmir valley rose in protest to condemn the heinous act. The incident took place on the 8th of May inside a government school washroom where the child was lured by the accused with chewing gums. Her parents had been frantically looking for her everywhere and found her after sunset when the Namaz was over. A woman had heard cries of a child coming out of the government school and informed the victim’s mother. She went and found her daughter over there with the trousers pulled down. At first, she thought that maybe the kid has peed her trousers but after seeing blood, the matter was clear to them.
The accused is a 20-year-old boy who worked at a garage as a car mechanic in the nearby town of Sumbal. He has been identified by the kid and arrested afterwards. A three-member special investigation team had been formed to investigate the case. Protests against this monstrous act had already started and not only common people, but anger also expressed by politicians. Former chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti claimed that the accused boy must be “stoned to death”. Syed Ali Shah Gelani, chairman of the Hurriyat Conference had considered this incident to be a black stain on our rich culture and heritage. He also brought reference of the Kathua rape case and the fact that it has been forgotten by people because political interference delays the process of getting justice.
The 3-year-old rape survivor had recently started to learn the Quran and attended the Maktab along with other kids of her area. In fact, she was too young to read the verses directly so her teacher had asked her to start with learning alphabets only. At present, she is going through terrible trauma and often breaks into sobs. The child is unable to walk properly as well. The mother has made it clear that capital punishment must be given to the boy and he should be hanged. The police force has promised the angry locals that the accused shall be punished strictly. The nation is buzzing with the rising crimes against women and children, and it is high time that the government takes strict action against such issues!
