It is rightly said that when you educate a child, you educate a generation. Considering the current times, almost every one of us wishes to have an educated society, however, merely a few stand out to work for development. There are a few who work in silence and their work speak volumes. One such silent hero is Uttam Tenon. He comes from a village named Pamohi, nestled at a distance of 20 km from Guwahati, Assam.

Tenon has gained attention with his exceptional work in the area of education. He runs ‘Parijat Academy’ which educates the underprivileged kids. Uttam Teron had just Rs. 800 in his pockets when he started the academy. He used to take home tuitions to earn money. He possessed a strong interest in becoming a teacher and his passion led him to think about the kids roaming across in his village, doing nothing. This certainly concerned Tenon and soon, he decided to spend his savings on establishing the academy in the year 2003. Although, he did not receive the consent from his parents, and had to work hard. He just had 4 students initially.

One of the prime advantages he possesses is his teaching pattern. He educates kids with music, practical knowledge and open discussions. The academy soon went on to have 32 students within the span of three years.

In the era, where money is considered everything, Uttam Tenon is providing education without taking any money. He does it for free. When asked about, how the academy progressed after the investment of Rs. 800, he stated that – In the year 2005, a Japanese photographer taught him to email and that’s where it all began. The email was answered by an NGO and thus, the academy received free books, clothes, etc. for the kids.

Currently, the academy is educating over 500 students from 11 villages. Their accommodation and education, both, are being provided for free. Also, the academy is up to standard 10th. Not only education, but the students participate in sports as well.

Wishing Uttam Tenon all the luck with his Academy and that his efforts touch the skies, for the work he is doing, is equivalent to worship.
