Born in Lucknow, the young and handsome 6ft 4 inches drummer, improviser and composer – Kartikeya Srivastava belongs to the world of music and creativity. A born drummer, who has many firsts and accolades into his kitty and yes mind you, he is still in his twenties; but has globe trotted, to bring in more finesse and direction to his talent, right from his teenage days.

From taking personalized training by experts in Singapore and Drumtech in London to The Collective, Manhattan and finally getting himself selected for graduation on scholarship from Berklee College of Music, Boston and having graduated with highest honours in 2013 to 2018, wherein he is the only Indian to get selected for the International Jazz Workshop held at the Banff Institute of Art and Creativity, Canada, on a full Scholarship. Important to emphasize that he is the only India, out of the 48 musicians, selected from all over the world.  Kartikeya’s talent and achievements are nothing short of being termed a “prodigy”.

Kartikeya became a visharad in Indian Classical Music from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow at the age of 12. He is also credited with setting up of 3 bands in India, back in the year 2014 - Samadhi, The Lucknow Experiment and Kartikeya Trio.  Karteikya, with his other band members: Utsav Lal, Abhinav, Pranav, and Aman Verma have been performing all over India, since 2014. Karketikya’s band was the only Indian band to have performed at Jazz Utsav in Delhi in Feb 2017. While Kartikeya, surely eats and sleeps on Jazz music, he also invests his time to train a few students, while in Delhi. One of his students has even performed with Karsh Kale at Dubai and some even secured admission in foreign universities.  As we wrap up the interaction, the youngster adds that currently he is interested in exploring musical improvisation and folk music from around the world in an attempt to develop a creative musical language that is personal and representative of his experience as a human.
